Raycom Media converts newsgathering to P2

Raycom Media will convert newsgathering operations at its stations nationwide to the Panasonic DVCPRO P2 series solid-state memory format. Raycom Media owns and operates 37 television stations including two ABC, seven CBS, nine FOX, 13 NBC, five UPN and one WB. The company’s stations cover more than 10 percent of U.S. television households with operations in 20 states.

To start the rollout to non-tape based acquisition, WXIX-TV in Cincinnati, OH, and WTVR-TV in Richmond-Petersburg, VA, will be equipped with DVCPRO P2 products immediately.

At nearly every station, the adoption of DVCPRO P2 represents an upgrade from Panasonic’s 25Mb/s DVCPRO format equipment, the current standard for digital news acquisition and recording. WXIX-TV and WTVR-TV are purchasing an aggregate of 17 AJ-SPX800 P2 cameras, 17 AJ-PCS060 P2 store drives, and four AG-HVX200 DVCPRO HD P2 handheld camcorders.
