New VOD system posts local newscasts within minutes of airing

San Antonio, TX, and surrounding communities will have access to WOAI-TV news programming using new VOD technology.

Time Warner Cable San Antonio launched News 4 WOAI On Demand Nov. 1, using a system from Broadbus Technologies. The system’s use in San Antonio is the first by Time Warner Cable nationally. The Broadbus system allows Time Warner Cable San Antonio to offer subscribers access to news on demand minutes after the live broadcast, a significant improvement from the hour or more it typically takes to post local news to a VOD system.

News 4 WOAI On Demand allows Time Warner customers to watch all WOAI-TV newscasts and other programming at their convenience. Time Warner Cable encodes the programs in real time, and they typically are published and available for on-demand viewing within about 5 minutes after the broadcast ends. Newscasts will be archived for 24 hours. WOAI-TV is part of the cable system’s Free On Demand channel lineup.
