Movielink adds video search engine

Movielink, a studio-owned broadband movie download service, announced it has signed a deal with Blinkx, a video search engine service.

The new collaboration will allow Blinkx.tv users to search for film titles, watch movie trailers and rent downloadable feature-length movies and television shows through Movielink.

Movielink, based in Los Angeles, is a joint venture of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Universal Studios and Warner Bros. San Francisco-based Blinkx, which launched last year, offers a downloadable application that lets viewers search content on their desktop, the Web and thousands of hours of TV content.

Blinkx.tv customers can view trailers of available titles without charge. Once they are ready to rent a title, they pay for their rental via credit card. Downloads range between $1.99 and $4.99. Movielink’s Movies in Minutes feature lets customers begin watching titles within two and 10 minutes, or store them for up to 30 days and experience unlimited viewing for any 24-hour period.

Customers can also use Movielink’s MultiPlay feature to re-rent titles for additional 24-hour viewing periods for up to 30 days after the initial rental.
