Green Grids animations make TNT debut during Whistling Straits coverage
During coverage this week of the 86th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, TNT and Turner Sports will use enhanced graphics to help fans gain a better understanding of the course.
The production will include Sportvision's Virtual Caddy system to animate key elements of the holes at Whistling Straits as viewed from a helicopter flying over the course.
Additionally, Green Grids animations will make their debut on TNT. The animation provides an overlay for holes No. 3 and No. 12 that indicates the dips and ridges on the greens and animated arrows to reveal the ball's roll. Additionally, the animation can give viewers a sense of the true configuration and difficulty of the greens.
The effects will enable TNT announcers to detail the greens, providing viewers with a first-hand look at the true contour, undulation and slope of the greens.
Sportvision's Virtual Caddy will be used at each par 4 and 5 hole to animate desired landing zones, hazards and other elements with graphics superimposed on the course.
TNT will provide 17 hours of coverage from Whistling Straits in Kohler, WI, Aug. 12-15.
