Avid Technology ships DNxchange

The Avid DNxchange allows broadcasters to work with eight- and 10-bit full raster Avid DNxHD files, offering 10-bit image quality with SD bandwidth.

Avid Technology has begun shipping the Avid DNxchange, a rack-mountable I/O device that converts HD media to Avid DNxHD media for use over any standard-definition SDI network.

The Avid DNxchange allows broadcasters to work with eight- and 10-bit full raster Avid DNxHD files, which deliver the image quality of 10-bit uncompressed HD media — but with the bandwidth of SD files.

The Avid DNxchange system automatically encodes HD content from cameras, switchers, routers and decks via HD-SDI to Avid DNxHD. Once encoded, the media is available for transport and exchange over an existing SD infrastructure.

During output, the system converts the content back into uncompressed HD files for any device with an HD-SDI interface.
