SILVER FOR LAWO INNOVATION

Toronto, Ontario, Canada – January 27, 2009 … Lawo AG has been presented with a silver award, in the mid-sized company category, at the 29th German Economy Innovation Awards. On Saturday, January 24th, 2009, Philipp Lawo, CEO of Lawo AG, accepted the prestigious award, which was presented by Dr. Annette Schavan, Minister of Education and Research, during a ceremonial gala evening, held at the Old Opera House in Frankfurt.

Lawo had been nominated by the jury for the development of their modularly designed mc² product platform, considering in particular the foremost member of this family, the worldwide successful mc²66 console, and the innovation that convinced the board of trustees.

The awards ceremony presenter, TV journalist Ranga Yogeshwar, underlined the great importance of the awards. Philipp Lawo also was delighted with this prestigious distinction for his company: “It confirms once again that we are on the right track”.

The much-valued and renowned Innovation Awards recognize trendsetting achievements in the German economy. During the run-up to the awards, Lawo battled against strong competition, and made it into a group of five finalists in the mid-sized company category; only the best innovations in German industry have a chance of reaching the final.

More than 350 companies sent in applications for the Innovation Awards. Nominees were picked by a high-caliber jury with prominent members from research and industry, for example, Nobel Prize winner Prof. Dr. Klaus Klitzing (Max Planck Institute), Dr. Ulf Merbold (ESA European Space Agency) and Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Bullinger (President of the Fraunhofer Society).

In reaching their decision, the jury members considered project management, design, degree of innovation, market opportunity and synergy, as well as the cost and benefit to the environment and society. Lawo AG demonstrated excellent achievement in all these aspects.

The German Economy Innovation Awards have been organized every year since 1980 by the nationwide Wirtschaftsclub Rhein-Main e.V (a renowned German business club) and WirtschaftsWoche (a German weekly business news magazine), and is the oldest awards competition of its kind worldwide. The awards ceremony is held under the patronage of the German Minister for Economics and Technology.
