Video Technics Partners with Atempo for Media Archiving - WAGT Takes Delivery of New VT Media Archive Library

Atlanta, GA (April 9, 2009) – Video Technics, based in Atlanta, Georgia, has entered into an OEM agreement with Atempo®, a leading provider of cross-platform data protection and archiving solutions to create a powerful and full functioning solution for backup and archiving in Apella™ and NewsFlow™ network environments.

Kevin Christiansen, Director Business Development and Strategic Alliances stated, "Atempo seeks to partner with technology organizations that are as committed to excellence in products and services as we are; we have found that with Video Technics."

WAGT-TV from Augusta, GA has already taken delivery of the redesigned VT Media Archive Library (VTMAL) to enhance their NewsFlow™ system with the ability to perform seamless archiving and restoring from the VT database. Dave DeFrehn, Chief Engineer from WAGT-TV said, “We were looking for a cost effective way to back up video simply because we were running out of space. Being able to back up on tape and archive it with a system designed to integrate with the rest of the VT system was just what we were looking for.” WAGT-TV’s NewsFlow solution, purchased three years ago, includes 2 Apella™ Video Servers for ingest and playout, 10 seats of VT Proxy Editor™ in their newsroom, 6 VT News Edit Plug-Ins for Adobe® Premiere Pro®, a VT Database Server (VTDB), VT Network Attached Storage (NAS) and the VT Media Exchange Server (VTMX) for ingesting file-based raw news content from Pathfire.

Mark Rivers, President and CEO of Video Technics said, “Atempo® Time Navigator™ is an extremely powerful product for system-wide backup and archiving. Being allowed a “low-level” interface with their core engines, VT has created our second-generation archive product that is more seamless and functional for Apella and NewsFlow users. Plus, using the same hardware, Atempo’s functionality can be scaled to an enterprise level to support other systems that work alongside the fully integrated VT product. VT provides asset management for its own media and metadata and can now seamlessly track/push/pull this content to LTO-4 tape using Atempo’s rich archive middleware interface.”

With an unprecedented low initial entry cost, the VT MAL product has a completely flexible storage design that fits any workflow, expands in the field as archive needs grow, and is fully integrated with on-site service and support. The standard VT MAL system is comprised of a 2RU Windows 2008 archive server with 2.5 Terabytes of useable shared storage and a 20 slot LTO-4 robotic tape library node, which can be internally upgraded to 44 LTO-4 slots. This provides over 3000 hours of 25Mb/s material stored nearline per node and even more by tracking bar coded tapes stored on the shelf. The tape library is intuitively managed over the network and offers unlimited offline archive capacity by adding more tapes and even more nearline by adding more robotic library nodes. “The VT Media Archive Library reduces the physical storage space needed for your archive library. You can store your entire video archive offline on a bookshelf yet keep immediate access to online low resolution proxies and metadata using our NLE plug-ins and web browsers,” said Mark Rivers, President and CEO of Video Technics.

The new and improved VT Media Archive Library will be shown at the NAB Conference April 20 – April 23 in the Video Technics booth #10802 located in the upper south hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada.
