Omneon MediaBridge™ Offers Simple, Fully Automated Migration Solution for MediaStream Users

Solution Enables Fast, Easy Migration of Legacy Formats to Omneon Server Platforms

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — April 18, 2009 — Omneon Inc. today announced the release of the Omneon MediaBridge™ application, a software solution that enables users to make a smooth migration from Avid® MediaStream™ servers to the Spectrum™ or MediaDeck™ media servers. The MediaBridge solution converts media without transcoding, enabling faster-than-real-time transfers to the Spectrum system and making content available for immediate access and playout.

“Omneon has leveraged its expertise in digital media file systems and processing to become a leader in providing smart platforms for today’s transmission workflows,” said Patrick McLean, director of segment marketing at Avid. “The company’s MediaBridge application reflects this expertise, giving our MediaStream customer base a very clear and simple migration path to the market-leading Spectrum transmission server system.”

The MediaBridge system dynamically converts MediaStream server content to a Spectrum-compatible format, allowing broadcasters to shift onto a proven server platform and enjoy the benefit of stable operation, scalable design, responsive support, and ongoing product development targeted to the future demands of broadcast operations. Capable of processing up to four files simultaneously and in real time, this powerful tool prevents the migration of media from causing a bottleneck in the broadcast workflow.

The MediaBridge application rewraps video (MPEG program stream, MPEG system stream, or Avid MXF OP1A) — preserving all ancillary data including VBI, timecode, and in and out points — and converts audio, making files available on the Spectrum system shortly after the file transfer process begins. A watch folder of local and mapped network drives serves as the input source and the converted output is automatically directed to the assigned Spectrum server, local network, or FTP drive.

A Web-based interface makes it easy for operators to configure parameters such as conversion type, source and destination folder location, and a number of concurrent file conversions. The user interface also supports remote monitoring of conversion jobs, offering details on processing status, percentage complete, and any problems in completing the job. SNMP support enables integration with IT infrastructure monitoring tools and an Omneon API supports integration with third-party solutions such as media asset management systems.

The MediaBridge migration tool is available now from an Omneon sales representative or reseller partner. Future versions of the software will support migration from Grass Valley server systems to the Omneon Spectrum media server system.
