New Products at IBC2008:
Fusion™ F2 1TB Portable Storage System
Building on the enormous success of the award-winning 640GB Fusion™ F2 portable two-drive RAID SATA storage system, a diminutive yet exceptionally fast solution for storage in film/video editing and professional content capture applications, Sonnet has introduced a new higher capacity and performance 1TB model.
The Fusion F2 1TB delivers speed, reliability, and convenience for on-location video capture or remote use when grid power is unavailable. The system's two 500GB/5400 rpm 2.5-inch drives are mounted side-by-side in a rugged aluminum enclosure just a bit larger than two stacked CD cases, ensuring secure storage in a low-profile design measuring just 5.9 inches by 6.2 inches by 0.72 inches. Internally, Fusion F2's drives are individually shock-isolated, virtually eliminating cross-coupled vibration — a potential source of soft-error-induced skipped frames. Fusion F2 is cool, quiet, and energy-efficient; the side-by-side drive placement increases the metal case's cooling surface area, thereby eliminating the need for a fan.
Sonnet's Fusion F2 features two eSATA data connections, draws its power from a computer's FireWire® port, and is designed for use with the Sonnet Tempo™ SATA ExpressCard/34 host adapter for MacBook® Pro and PC notebooks. With its drives formatted as a RAID 0 volume, Fusion F2 delivers remarkable performance with sustained data transfer rates of up to 134 MB/sec read and write (nearly twice as fast as a pair of FireWire 800 drives) and supports professional content capture in conjunction with an AJA® Video Systems' Io HD.
Fusion F2 is ideal for use on location as well as in the office, offering flexibility and interoperability to support Mac OS® X, Windows® Vista, Windows XP Professional, and Linux. It is compatible with capture cards from AJA, Blackmagic Design, Matrox, and Bluefish444 and works with all mainstream media editing applications, including Apple® Final Cut Pro® and Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS3.
Existing Products Being Highlighted at IBC2008:
Fusion™ D800RAID and R800RAID With Controller Card
Sonnet's award-winning Fusion™ D800RAID desktop and R800RAID 2U rackmount SATA storage systems provide breakthrough performance and data safety in affordable, direct-attached disk arrays ideal for individual projects and for use in facilities with multiple edit stations. Created for HD edit environments in which speed and fault-tolerance are a necessity, the eight-drive Fusion 800RAID systems are available in 4TB, 6TB, or 8TB configurations, all incorporating Enterprise/RAID Edition drives.
These popular Sonnet systems feature a high-performance PCI Express® hardware RAID controller based on the latest-generation Intel® IOP348 RAID processor, which can handle the throughput of all eight drives with plenty of overhead. The Sonnet RAID controller is configured with 256 MB of ECC-protected RAM, especially important to maintain data-stream writes as the disk array nears capacity. With its drives formatted as a RAID 0 striped set, a Fusion D800RAID or R800RAID system is capable of 2K (2048 x 1556) LOG RGB capture and playback. With drives formatted as a RAID 4, RAID 5, or DVRAID group, these storage systems can handle multiple streams of uncompressed eight-bit 1080i HD, DV, HDV, DVCPRO, and ProRes 422 video easily while offering failsafe protection in the event of drive failure.
Both systems can be used with flexibility in mixed environments, supporting Mac OS® X, Windows® Vista, Windows XP, and Linux operating systems. The Fusion products offer compatibility with capture cards from AJA, Blackmagic Design, Matrox, and Bluefish, and operate with all mainstream video editing applications.

Fusion™ R400Q and D400Q SATA Quad Interface Storage Systems
Fusion™ R400Q 1U rackmount storage systems and Fusion D400Q desktop storage systems each provide up to 4TB of storage, incorporating four swappable Enterprise/RAID Edition drives. For maximum convenience and flexibility, these units feature four interfaces: eSATA, FireWire® 800, FireWire 400, and USB 2.0. A single cable connects the system to the computer or a host adapter. This feat is made possible by the 400Q systems' use of a port multiplier, which enables all four drives to be accessed at the full speed of the respective interface.
With data transfers up to 220 MB/sec when the system is connected to the host computer through an eSATA controller, and its drives configured as a RAID 0 striped set, a single Fusion R400Q or Fusion D400Q is fast enough to support multiple streams of DV, HDV, DVCPRO, and ProRes 422. Multiple systems can be ganged to double, triple, or even quadruple available streams. Like other Fusion storage systems from Sonnet, Fusion R400Q and D400Q are platform-independent, support capture cards from leading manufacturers, and are compatible with mainstream video editing applications.
Tempo™ SATA E4P
Sonnet's Tempo™ SATA E4P PCI Express® host controller features four external SATA (eSATA) ports. Each port manages the data flow of up to five high-capacity drives in a single port-multiplier-equipped enclosure, such as the Fusion™ D500P, and four such storage systems can be ganged on a single Tempo SATA E4P card to support a colossal 20TB of storage. This Sonnet card supports sustained data transfer speeds up to 240 MB/sec per port and supports RAID configurations that enable the capture and processing of uncompressed HD video streams, or processing in other bandwidth-intensive applications. Compatible with Mac® and Windows® operating systems, the card enables fast-growing facilities to add the speed and capacity they require at an affordable price point.
Tempo™ SATA X4P Card
The Tempo™ SATA X4P PCI-X card from Sonnet provides a powerful combination of speed and performance, leveraging the PCI-X interface to offer the utmost in data throughput and raw storage capacity. Up to four high-performance drive enclosures, including Sonnet's Fusion™ D500P systems, can be ganged on a Tempo SATA X4P, which supports port multipliers to handle the data throughput from as many as 20 drives and a colossal 20TB of storage when used with the highest-capacity drives.
The remarkable scalability of this Tempo card offers users a simple and affordable means by which to extend storage capacity while maintaining the highest levels of performance even in the most demanding applications. Ideal for capture and processing of uncompressed HD video and other high-bandwidth applications, the Tempo SATA X4P offers the flexibility of working with drives individually, configuring and hot-swapping drives and/or RAID sets as needed. The card is compatible with both Mac® and Windows® operating systems.
Tempo™ SATA ExpressCard/34
Sonnet's Tempo™ SATA ExpressCard/34 establishes a new standard in storage host controller performance for mobile video capture and editing, whether in the field, the studio, or at home. This controller plugs directly into a MacBook® Pro or any Windows® notebook equipped with an ExpressCard® slot, and is the perfect companion for Sonnet's Fusion™ F2 portable two-drive RAID SATA storage system. The Tempo card's two external 3GB/s SATA II ports can manage the data flow of up to ten high-capacity SATA hard drives in two port-multiplier-equipped enclosures (like the Fusion D500P) to support high-performance editing applications such as Final Cut Pro®. Tempo™ SATA ExpressCard/34 supports Mac OS® X, Windows® Vista, and Windows XP Pro RAID features and can support sustained write and read data-transfer speeds up to 134 MB/sec.
