China: LCD Market to Reach $13 Billion by 2010
November 8, 2006
China's LCD TV market will grow at nearly a 50 percent compound annual rate in the five-year period ending in 2010, according to market researcher iSuppli, with Chinese LCD TV shipments increasing to more than 20 million units annually by 2010.
The El Segundo, Calif.-based researcher said it expects China's LCD revenue to grow from $1.3 billion last year to $12.8 billion in 2010. (China's retailers are currently promoting LCD technology heavily, but not plasma, according to iSuppli.)
Screens 30 inches and larger are experiencing the fastest growth of all LCD sets in the world's most populous nation, as consumer preferences for bigger-is-better screens intensify as prices continue to decline, iSuppli said. Shipments of 30-inch and larger units will account for more than 80 percent of China's market within three years, the research firm predicts.
