Rascal Flatts bassist opens The Grip in Nashville

Bassist Jay DeMarcus of the award-winning country group Rascal Flatts and producer of Chicago 30, recently opened The Grip, a full-service, private recording studio in Nashville, TN, built and designed by Carl Tatz Design. The Grip features a main control room with a tracking area and three booths, a drum area, a lounge, a galley kitchen and an editing suite.

To maximize the facility’s sound quality, the design team turned to Auralex Acoustics. Acoustical treatment products for this project included the company’s Custom ProPanels and pArtScience’s SpaceCouplers. Designed by Russ Berger, the SpaceCoupler optimizes acoustical environments for a wide range of performance and recording styles. By providing an acoustical boundary interaction between loosely coupled spaces, the SpaceCoupler generates a low-level reverberant tail to create a full, well-developed sound, even in small footprint spaces. Auralex ProPanels are fabric-covered absorptive panels available in a variety of sizes and colors.

The Grip is outfitted with state-of-the-art audio equipment for recording, tracking and mixing, as well as a wide variety of instruments and microphones for in-studio use. Owner Jay DeMarcus is best known as the bassist for Rascal Flatts, whose latest album, “Me and My Gang,” hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts.
