LA Audio appoints new U.S. distributor
LA Audio, manufacturer of the GC400, a two-channel auto compressor and frequency conscious noise gate, has selected Audio Exchange International (AXI) as its exclusive U.S. distributor.

Under the new agreement, AXI will be responsible for all sales and marketing of LA Audio products throughout the U.S. Currently, AXI handles distribution for WK Audio (ID Controller), Aurora Audio, Desk Doctor, Advanced Tech Services Group and PAD.

SLS Loudspeakers appoints Steven Hicks and Dell Furano to board of directors
SLS Loudspeakers has appointed R. Steven Hicks and Dell Furano to its board of directors.

Hicks is currently chairman of Capstar Partners. Hicks was vice chairman of AMFM, which merged with Clear Channel Communications in August 2000.

Award-winning supervising sound editor joins Soundelux
Award-winning Supervising Sound Editor John Leveque has joined Soundelux in London, U.K., as part of the Ascent Media group.

Leveque was formerly at Burbank-based post-outfit SoundStorm. He won a BAFTA Award for “L.A. Confidential” and has received four Academy Award nominations.

Norris brings ATR/Aria Rentals to Big Apple
Norris Audio is the first New York rental company to offer analog recording decks equipped with Aria discrete class-A electronics in both 8-track (2in) and the two-track (1in or .5in) mastering formats.

ATR Service Company of York, PA, supplied the Aria electronics packages, the remanufactured ATR-102 two-track deck, and also made special modifications to a Studer A827 2in transport purchased separately for use with the Aria multichannel unit.

Applications now available for the Mackie/SAE Institute Student Scholarships
Mackie and the SAE Institute have announced the SAE Institute/Mackie International Scholarship Contest, which will award one international and one U.S. student, full tuition scholarship to the SAE location of the applicants’ choice.

Entrants must submit a portfolio of creative works or productions and an outline of their own relevant experiences and goals in the audio industry.

All 41 participating SAE Institute campuses around the world are accepting entries through March 31. Each school will select two finalists who will then be submitted to Mackie for final judging.

Telefunken names new president
Joseph Sanborn has been promoted to president of Telefunken North America. The announcement was made by Toni Fishman, company founder and CEO. Sanborn previously held the position of director of operations.

WHDH-TV and WSVN-TV install SSL C100 digital broadcast consoles
Sister stations WHDH-TV, an NBC affiliate in Boston, and WSVN-TV, a FOX affiliate in Miami, have both purchased Solid State Logic C100 digital broadcast consoles to help achieve their goal of an all-digital production model. WHDH is in the planning stages of transitioning its facility to all-digital. The C100 was selected because of several features including its easy to read TFT displays for metering; a flexible feature set; and the capability for 5.1 surround mixing and audio quality. WSVN is also in the process of transitioning into an all-digital model. It is replacing a 20-year-old analog console.
