MX02 offers News 12 Westchester I/O solution for field, studio use

News 12 Westchester, in Yonkers, NY, which reaches more than 270,000 homes, recently equipped its in-house editing systems and SNG van with Matrox MXO2 input/output devices.

"In house, we have an XDCAM HD workflow with Apple Final Cut Studio. We needed a solution to ingest SD legacy video into our timelines for quick editing without rerendering,” said Henry Ramos, News 12 director of operations.

According to Ramos, it was important to find a way to digitize HD or SD from the news operation’s Sony PDW700 camcorders and DVCPRO archive without conversions or sacrificing quality as it made its transition to HD. The Matrox MX02 offered the solution.

For in-house editing, Ramos installed MXO2 devices on eight Mac Pro- and MacBook Pro-based Final Cut Pro editing stations. The editing stations are connected to a SAN that gives editors the flexibility to work from any station. This set up supports the XDCAM HD file-based format for real-time playback without going to an intermediate codec.
For field editing, News 12 has equipped its OB van and fly-away kits with Matrox MXO2 units.
