Modeo inks mobile TV DVR deal with Penthera Technologies

Modeo announced last week that it's enhancing its mobile TV service with the Mobile Broadcast Platform v2.0 from Penthera Technologies. The platform enables error-free broadcast delivery of all media files, as well as digital video recording (DVR) capabilities.

Version 2.0 of the Mobile Broadcast Platform includes the company's new Mediacast system, which allows mobile operators to reliably "tricklecast" — or broadcast over time — files to their subscribers' mobile devices for storage and, later, playout. Mediacast currently supports the broadcast of full-length TV shows, video clips, podcasts and MP3s. Receiver devices supported include mobile phones, PDAs, laptops and portable media players.

With this software enhancement, Modeo expects to be able to provide users with the ability to record and save their favorite programming to their mobile devices, even while watching another program, for viewing at a later time. Modeo is also looking into the possibility of using the Panthera platform for such capabilities as "impulse recordings" of interesting content as well as targeted delivery of personalized content that matches a user's viewing preferences.

Modeo is currently beta testing its mobile TV service in New York City.
