Broadcasters from Europe to Mexico and Japan have used the FIFA World Cup in Germany as the launch for new HD services. In a windfall for automation vendors, broadcasters have added HD facilities to their master control and playout facilities.
Spanish-language network, Grupo Televisa, selected Miranda to supply monitoring, channel branding and signal processing systems to support Mexico’s first two HD channels. Mexico City viewers have been able to watch the tournament in HD and in the future can watch general programming in the HD format.
Also in Mexico, TV Azteca is using Miranda interfacing equipment as part of the production system in Munich to deliver the soccer coverage in HD across Mexico. TV Azteca will use eight Vizrt HD Viz|Engines in various TV Azteca studios to improve the on-air look and enhance live sports coverage.
Viz|Arena and Viz|Virtual Studio let TV Azteca use dynamic graphics used for replays during the matches live soccer coverage. After the football tournament, the graphics systems will be used for coverage of the upcoming presidential election.
