Cox Television upgrades newsgathering to P2 HD system

Cox Television, which has used the Panasonic P2 solid-state memory recording system for about two years, will extend conversion of newsgathering operations at its TV stations to the P2 HD tapeless system.

The first two stations to be outfitted with DVCPRO P2 HD equipment will be WSOC-TV, the ABC affiliate in Charlotte, NC, and WSB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Atlanta. Beginning January 2007, both stations are slated to equip their photographers with fully equipped AJ-HPX2000 shoulder-mount, multiformat 2/3in P2 HD camcorders.

Cox Television, a subsidiary of Cox Enterprises, operates 15 TV stations, three national TV sales representation firms and a Washington, D.C., news bureau.

Cox Television will upgrade to P2 HD for all its Betacam SX replacements as it extends its transition to HD and 16:9 newsgathering, said Sterling Davis, vice president of engineering for Cox Broadcasting.
