BeaconSeek to hold SNG course

UK consultant, project management and systems integrator BeaconSeek will offer a course on basic satellite newsgathering (SNG) operations Oct. 1-3.

To be held at Putteridge Bury Conference Centre in London, the course is designed for “absolute beginners” at SNG, including cameramen, producers and editors, to those at the intermediate level. The course will give students a theoretical and practical knowledge of basic SNG uplink operations with flyaways and SNG vehicles.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Satellite configuration
  • Frequency bands used
  • Uplink/downlink frequencies
  • Polarization
  • Using a spectrum analyzer
  • Interference
  • Safety issues, including microwave and electrical hazards

The practical sessions will include exercises on using a flyaway, including assembly, alignment, transmission and de-rigging. They will also include the use of an SNG truck with an auto-pointing antenna system.
