Wal-Mart to Expand Blu-ray Player Brands

Wal-Mart is going to spice up its various offerings of Blu-ray Disc players and Blu-ray movies as a key part of its planned makeover of its CE department in more than 3,500 U.S. stores.

Wal-Mart also will take on the competition more directly by beginning to sell brand names at lower price points than the Best Buys and Amazon.coms of the world, according to the Wall Street Journal.

One target group in Wal-Mart's sights (other than Target itself) consists of former customers of now-defunct Circuit City.

Wal-Mart currently ranks second in Blu-ray product sales to Best Buy, with an estimated 25 percent share, recently overtaking online retailer Amazon in the running.
