Sharp Sues Samsung Over LCD Patents

Samsung Electronics is being sued by Sharp amid accusations that the South Korean manufacturer infringed upon five of Sharp’s patents relating to LCD displays for HD screens, as well as computer monitors and other screen products.

The lawsuit primarily pertains to patents which Sharp said it developed first to improve the image quality of LCD displays, according to Reuters.

Both Sharp and Samsung, which was not immediately commenting on the suit, as a business strategy have devised LCD display components that are lawfully used by other CE makers under various brand names.

Meanwhile, Sharp trails both Samsung and Sony in LCD production and sales. But it said its newest LCD plant will use bigger 10th-generation substrates from which it will cut larger LCD TV panels than its competitors, and at substantial savings in production costs.
