SGI teams with Maximum Throughput for InfiniteStorage SAN environment with real-time video

Maximum Throughput, a developer and provider of networked storage and media management solutions, has announced the introduction of Chisel, an uncompressed, standard-definition (SD) video gateway for SGI’s InfiniteStorage SAN solutions.

The company said Chisel adds a variety of video capabilities and storage accessibility required by post-production and broadcast clients, including the ability for video to be ingested by the SAN in a user-selectable format. Consequently, Chisel allows SAN content to be played out as an SDI signal. It also allows SAN content to be recorded to tape and accessed in the same way as a DDR.

“The teaming of Maximum Throughput’s Chisel with SGI InfiniteStorage solutions allows our customers to concentrate the ingest of standard-definition video directly into the SAN — freeing up the workstations for more productive and creative work,” said Louise Ledeen, SGI’s director of production for the media industries.

Maximum Throughput’s uncompressed I/O edge devices are part of an upcoming installation, together with Silicon Graphics and Discreet, to help Univision Communications continue its migration to a high-bandwidth digital workflow. Univision Network is the largest Spanish-speaking broadcast network in the United States, with 24 owned and operated stations and 53 affiliate stations reaching 98 percent of U.S. Hispanic households. The SGI and Discreet solution will be used to edit programs, generate program promotions and reformat programs.
