Satellite Business and Technology Pavilion at NAB

Presented by the Society of Satellite Professionals International and World Teleport Association in collaboration with the NAB, The Satellite Business and Technology Pavilion will present tutorials, demonstrations and case studies for three consecutive days in the Satellite and Broadcasting Technologies area of the NAB2005 exhibit floor in the LVCC central hall. The pavilion is open to all show attendees.

Among the highlights:

  • How to Launch a New TV Channel: A panel of television, satellite service and technology executives explore the latest opportunities, solutions and business issues surrounding the launch of a new cable or DTH channel. 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., Monday, April 18.
  • The Best-in-Class Digital Content Management and Distribution Hub: Technology providers and users debate what's needed for high-performance, cost-effective digital content management and distribution. 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Monday, April 18.
  • Preventing Digital Piracy in Satellite Program Distribution: In a global television market, piracy of high-quality digital video is a threat to the broadcast, cable and DTH business model. A group of TV, satellite service and technology professionals discuss the problems and emerging solutions. 3 p.m. – 4 p.m., Monday, April 18.
  • How to Originate Video On Demand, Near VOD and Set-Top VOD: Panelists describe the connectivity and storage infrastructure, and the latest technology advances, behind the burgeoning VOD business. 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 20.
  • Case Studies in Repurposing Video Content: Digital content can be re-purposed in many ways to gain incremental revenues. Panelists present real-world case studies of successful applications and discuss the added value provided to the content owner. 3 p.m.- 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 20
  • Behind-the-Scenes Issues in HDTV: Origination, Uplinking & Distribution: With HDTV adoption rates climbing fast, the TV and satellite industries are working to resolve the back-end technology and business issues of origination, uplinking and distributing HDTV. Panelists discuss the issues, the obstacles and the emerging solutions. 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 20.
  • The IP Media Revolution: As data protocols converge on the IP standard, and digitization and compression make it feasible to transmit just about anything in IP packets, users are gaining the benefits of bandwidth savings, a fast-expanding set of applications, and the ability to run all their traffic on one network. A panel of practitioners provides updates on the current state-of-the-art and near-future potential. 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m..
  • Fighting Satellite Interference in SNG and Remote Uplinking: Both satellite carriers and customers are developing a new appreciation for the cost of interference in terms of lost bandwidth and disrupted services. Experts discuss the sources of interference, how it is mitigated today and what is needed to reduce the threat to availability in the future. 1:30 p.m. – 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 20.
