Pinnacle's Vortex workflow is an end-to-end solution designed to give journalists, news directors and producers easy access to media for editing and browsing with metadata and simple tools for ingest, editing, and playout.
Pinnacle Systems announced in mid-December that the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will implement its Vortex Networked News solution at its studios in Johannesburg.
The deal, valued at more than $1 million, will provide SABC with a foundation from which to produce 17 different news bulletins per day in all 11 official South African languages.
The project is being managed by Pinnacle Systems' systems integrator in South Africa, Concilium Technologies, and is due for installation in early 2004.
The implementation of Pinnacle Systems' Vortex Networked News solution will deliver both technical and cultural changes to news production at SABC. Thanks to the integrated proxy editors at their PCs, journalists can edit stories directly on their desktop and deliver completed content direct to the news rundown, giving them greater control over the editorial integrity of their stories while also delivering significant production efficiencies. Furthermore, the completely tapeless environment ensures that stories and timelines can be updated even during broadcast.
