Offhollywood Pictures, RED ONE deliver feature-film look for ‘Splinterheads’

"Splinterheads,” the new independent feature film from Atlantic Pictures in association with Offhollywood Pictures and producer Darren Goldberg, was shot with a pair of RED ONE cameras from Offhollywood.

Offhollywood Pictures, the content development and production arm of Offhollywood, partnered with the producers to supply RED ONE cameras and technical support as well as post-production and DCP authoring services for the coming-of-age comedy.

“Splinterheads" is the story of Justin Frost, a 20-something slacker who has decided that his "thing" is that he has no "thing" at all. When a small-time carnival rolls into town, he meets a gorgeous con artist. The pair goes on an adventure, and Frost quickly falls for her and finds a reason to get direction in his life.

According to Goldberg, working with a digital format allowed the film’s actors to improvise without causing any concern about, in his words, “blowing through our budget.” It also gave the producer a great deal of flexibility in post production, he added.

"In addition to being recognized as a funny, charming and energetic film, 'Splinterheads' has been praised by early reviewers for having a polished look and a 'shine' unusual in low-budget independent films," said Offhollywood CTO and co-founder Mark Pederson. Offhollywood’s RED support and post-production services helped give the movie a high-end visual quality worthy of theatrical release, he added.

"Splinterheads" was the first film to be screened in Offhollywood's new digital cinema screening room. The 35-seat theater, which serves digital intermediates in the day and special industry events and screenings in evenings, features Dolby 3-D, 35mm and DCP projection.
