NxTV, Inc. said this week that it's delivering HD VOD services to hotel customers with the first installation of its set-top boxes at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
NxTV said its on-site systems provide a totally digital-fed HD stream directly from the video server to the hotel room HD set, providing consistent video quality room to room. The firm said that the set-top boxes provide the DVR functionalities of rewind, fast-forward, pause and save.
Its boxes also are embedded with the Firefox Web browser to provide online content on the TV screen. The STBs will be mostly installed at luxury properties.
The boxes feature a single HDMI output with HDCP encryption for security, and according to the company, with the integration of the Verimatrix VCAS system, the box can use a public key infrastructure and data-encryption technology to provide additional content protection.
