News Corp. forms unit to seek newsgathering efficiencies

News Corp. has formed a new portal that will allow its worldwide editorial properties to share content and resources across the entire company, company chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch said April 14.

John Moody, who served as executive VP of news editorial for FOX News, will lead the new unit and report directly to Murdoch. He will work with news chiefs at all News Corp. properties to improve newsgathering efficiencies and identify cost savings. He also will investigate the company’s worldwide contracts and reliance on global news services, according to a company announcement.

According to Murdoch, the new venture is aimed at leveraging the company’s news content and resources to promote success worldwide as a media entity.
