MST Systems delivers graphics for Ryder Cup coverage

MST Systems used the Harris Inscriber RTX HD graphics platform to provide all the graphics for coverage of the 36th Ryder Cup Tournament from Dublin, Ireland, last month.

The 20-year veteran of sports graphics used the Inscriber RTX HD system for worldwide and domestic feeds on behalf of a number of broadcasters, including the BBC, Sky Sports and Ireland’s public service broadcaster, RTE.

Throughout the three-day event, MST Systems used the RTX HD system, controlled by MST Systems’ own software, to provide up-to-date player statistics and score information live from the course. Tournament information was displayed in a multitude of colors, styles and fonts via 3-D animations.

According to MST Systems senior software developer Stuart Paterson, the Inscriber RTX HD system can deliver real-time effects without needing to render, allowing the company to “work ‘on the fly’ to provide the continuous graphics output.”

The Inscriber RTX HD graphics platform lets broadcasters create their own custom broadcast solutions. A powerful development tool, the RTX HD platform lets users create layouts consisting of advanced design elements, such as 3-D animation, multiple layering, live and digital video and data from multiple sources, using common programming languages.

For the Ryder Cup, MST Systems purchased an additional eight RTX HD systems to deliver a full HD broadcast.
