Mics, Cameras a Step Closer to Federal Courts
Two bills that would allow cameras and microphones into federal courts are on their way to the full Senate. The Judiciary Committee has passed the measures, an action hailed by the Radio-Television News Directors Association.
The bills call for radio and television coverage of federal judicial proceedings. S. 1768 permits Supreme Court proceedings to be televised while S. 829 gives federal judges the discretion to permit audiovisual coverage of proceedings on a case-by-case basis under a three-year pilot program.
