Loral Skynet has completed the initial design and is leading a multi-vendor project team in building a content delivery and DSNG for Hearst-Argyle based in Orlando, Fla. Construction started last week. Orlando will be the hub and the control center, initially serving four Hearst markets: KCRA/KQRA Sacramento, Calif., WPBF West Palm Beach, Fla., WCVB Boston, Mass. and WGAL Lancaster, Penn.
Service is slated to begin in the first quarter of next year. Eventually, all 24 Hearst stations will be served by the central facility. The Orlando facility will provide satellite access for DSNG operations and will distribute program material to the Hearst stations. Loral has four satellites serving the U.S. (Telstar 4/5/6/11) with 72-36MHz wide C-band and 52-54MHz, 6-36MHz and 48-27MHz KU-band transponders available.
