Latin American broadcasters buy $4 million in Grass Valley digital news products from Thomson

Several major Latin American broadcasters recently have bought Grass Valley digital news production products from Thomson.
Five stations, including Radio y Television de Guatemala, Television Jamaica, CDN in the Dominican Republic and Teleamazonas and Canal Uno in Ecuador, are spending a combined $4 million to replace their analog news and play-to-air operations.
The new system configurations include:
- Radio y Television de Guatemalais adding a Grass Valley DNPS system for its two popular newscasts. The station’s networked news workflow now includes four Grass Valley NewsEdit XT nonlinear editing systems, 10 Grass Valley NewsBrowse Web-based video browsing and editing systems and a Grass Valley Network Attached Storage (NAS) system for sharing materials.
The KayakDD 1 M/E digital production switcher will be used in a mobile production truck for Radio y Television de Guatemala.- Radio y Television de Guatemala also has purchased seven Grass Valley LDK 1707 digital cameras and a Grass Valley KayakDD 1 M/E digital production switcher for use in a mobile production truck for live remote news coverage.
- Canal Uno in Ecuador has taken delivery on two DNPS systems for its Guayaquil and Quito broadcast facilities. The order includes several NewsEdit XT nonlinear editing systems, a PVS 1100 Profile XP Media Platform standard-definition (SD) server, a Zodiak digital video switcher, six LDK 1707 cameras and many Grass Valley Gecko modular products.
- Television Jamaica has built an end-to-end digital news production facility in Kingston that includes five NewsEdit XT systems and a NewsQ Pro integrated news playback system. The facility also includes two Zodiak switchers, four PVS 1000 Profile XP Media Platform servers, an M-2100 SD master control system, four LDK 100 digital cameras, a Concerto Series router, an Encore facility control system, NetCentral software for Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)-based remote monitoring and Grass Valley modular products.
- CDN has installed a complete Grass Valley Digital News Production suite, including dual channel NewsQ manual playback systems and four NewsEdit XT nonlinear editing systems for its redesigned news operations.
- Teleamazonas has purchased a full complement of Grass Valley products for the news departments. They include a number of NewEdit XT nonlinear editing systems, a redundant NAS system, and NewsQ and NewsQ Pro for manual and automated playback. The station has also purchased a PVS 1100 Profile XP Media Platform server, a 64x64 Concerto Series router, an Encore facility control system, a Zodiak video production switcher, Gecko modular products and an M-2100 HD master control system.
