Iowa Public TV has taken delivery of two Solid State Logic C100 HD digital broadcast consoles. They will be used in support of the group’s studio productions.
“We are redesigning our existing studios for HD production and needed a console that could handle that level of production along with 5.1 surround—the C100 met our requirements perfectly,” said Bill Hayes, director of engineering and technology for Iowa Public TV and a columnist for TV Technology. “One of the units will be used in our control room for live-to-tape, while the other unit will be used in our auditorium for recording.”
One element of the C100’s feature set that weighed in the decision to purchase the consoles is SSL’s MORSE (modular resource sharing engine). This allows both of the Iowa Public TV consoles to share audio from microphones located in either of two studios via fiber and allowing production personnel to work on projects from either studio.
“Employing two C100s allows our operators to go from one console to the next without skipping a beat,” Hayes said. “This is extremely valuable in streamlining production efforts.”
Plans are to have both consoles installed and operational by the end of the year.
