Half of younger Europeans regularly watch TV, movies online, says researcher

New research from Strategy Analytics reveals that younger Europeans are leading the way in adoption of Web TV services.

Released at IBC2008 in Amsterdam last week, the research shows that about half of the 2500 broadband users surveyed under age 25 from five European nations regularly stream TV shows or movies from broadcaster Web sites.

According to Martin Olausson, director of Strategy Analytics’ digital media research, the findings suggest broadcasters have succeeded in reaching out to demographics that have been drifting away from traditional television. However, younger broadband users in Europe are “ready to move on to alternative sources of online entertainment” when available, he said. So, broadcasters have no room for complacency.
