FX Group designs HD news set for duopoly in Dallas

KTVT-TV, the CBS owned and operated affiliate in Dallas, has launched two high-definition newscasts with a single new set from FX Group. The spacious new duopoly set features two anchor areas, a weather center, flexible standup area and a multipurpose interview and sports set. The set was specifically designed for HD broadcasting, ensuring the on-air picture looks great in both 16:9 and 4:3.

The set is built around a centralized weather center, allowing this area of the studio to serve both KTVT-TV and its sister independent station, KTXA-TV. The new HD set was designed and built at FX's 50,000-square foot Orlando facility, where a team of designers worked with the station's creative and news departments to design a set that's both aesthetically pleasing and fully functional for its varying needs.

Warm wood tones and faux stonework combined with sleek curves and contemporary metal finishes combine to create an eye-catching, branded look for the station's HD and standard definition channels.

KTXA-TV's set continues the warm yet modern flair by utilizing rich, reddish-brown wood tones offset with perforated metal panels and curved graphic openings. And importantly, it is a distinct look that sets KTXA-TV apart from the KTVT-TV brand.

Both sides of the set are stocked with state-of-the-art high definition monitors that display live videos and graphics. The monitors also allow the station to quickly and efficiently brand individual shows and segments.

Although FX Group has done work for stations in major cities including Philadelphia, Boston and Detroit, KTVT-TV is the design company's first project for a big-three affiliate in a top-10 market.
