FLO Forum completes testing and certification of FLO specs

The FLO Forum last week approved the FLO Series II and Series III testing plans, making a complete set of FLO Series I, II and III testing specifications available to the market. The Series I specifications have already been published by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) as standards.

FLO Series II (FLO Services Testing) is a suite of application and service-related MediaFLO qualification tests and their descriptions for standardization. A corresponding service, the FLO Device Qualification System (FDQS), facilitates execution of the tests. FLO Series III (FLO/Non-FLO Concurrent Operation) verifies that MediaFLO services do not interfere with non-MediaFLO radio-based services and features on the handset. Currently, the specification addresses CDMA2000 1X, 1xEvDO a-GPS and Bluetooth test cases.

Reverse-link and other system elements, with a CDMA reverse-link focus where necessary, are among the areas addressed by the specifications. The FLO Forum’s Testing and Certification Committee, which developed the specifications, is working on the development of comparable documents to address a UMTS/WCDMA reverse- link.

The specifications ensure that the handsets, transmitters and services deployed as part of a FLO-based commercial mobile broadcast service are interoperable.
