FCC touts DTV benefits to Wilmington shoppers

The FCC made a special effort last weekend to assist residents of the Wilmington, NC, area to prepare for the city’s early transition to DTV.

Saturday, May 31, marked the 100-day point until the commercial broadcasters serving Wilmington, including WWAY, WSFX-TV, WECT, WILM-LP and W51CW, discontinue analog transmission and launch maximized digital service. The market is serving as the first real-world continuous test for DTV transmission and reception prior to the Feb. 17, 2009, analog shutoff. Wilmington will provide valuable information on DTV coverage, real-world DTV reception as well as consumer education efforts.

FCC DTV experts were on hand May 31 at three retail stores to answer consumer questions about the transition as the retailers ramped up their efforts to demonstrate the benefits of digital broadcasting.
