ECI Telecom Launches GPON for Fiber HD
ECI Telecom has begun offering a series of Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) upgrades to support Fiber-to-the Home (FTTH), Fiber-to-the Premises (FTTP) and Fiber-to-the Node (FTTN) applications for HD and other DTV services.
The new options are geared to provide maximum operational and capital expense savings to carriers for delivering such bandwidth-intensive services as HDTV, IPTV, and network-based DVRs.
ECI Telecom, based in Petah Tikva, Israel, said its GPON technology does not require regular maintenance or a specific power source, which contributes to operational expense savings. Because GPON is a point-to-multipoint configuration, it doesn't require individual fibers for each point. Each port supports up to 128 FTTH premises, ECI Telecom said.
