Discovery Communications has announced that the Discovery HD Theater network will be extended to international markets. The network was started in 2002 and offers HDTV programming from Discovery networks including The Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. This announcement is a further indication that HDTV is becoming a factor in international television program markets, as well as the U.S. International markets where HDTV is currently gaining a foothold include Canada, Mexico, Korea, China, Japan, Germany and the U.K.
Discovery HD Theater Converts IMAX to HDTV
Discovery HD Theater, Discovery Network's new HDTV channel, completed the first-ever telecine transfer of three IMAX 15/70 films to HDTV. The three films, "Africa's Elephant Kingdom," "The Human Body" and "Wildfire" were originally filmed in the 15/70 format (15 perforations, 70mm), which is three times larger than a
