Comcast debuts ON DEMAND service in Seattle

Visitors to SeaChange's 52-foot DTV Truck in Seattle included members of the local press, community leaders, broadcasters and Comcast employees.

SeaChange International’s Digital Television Truck was on site in Seattle, Washington to support the launch of Comcast's ON DEMAND service. Visitors to the 52-foot mobile presentation vehicle hosted members of the local press, community leaders, broadcasters and Comcast employees. Leveraging Comcast’s newly upgraded cable systems and SeaChange video-on-demand (VOD) servers, ON DEMAND features a wide selection of hit movies, subscription VOD options from HBO, Showtime Starz and other premium channels, and free programs from news, sports and entertainment networks.

Comcast began rolling out the service to selected areas in February and plans to make ON DEMAND available to nearly 1.3 million homes within its Western Washington service area by April 1.

Throughout the spring, SeaChange’s DTV Truck Tour will continue to give television operators, programmers, content creators and viewers across the U.S. a firsthand experience with “personal television” services. Beginning March 30, against the backdrop of Cable Week in New York City, cable operators, programmers and advertisers will further explore VOD amid an array of set-top/software combinations in the Truck’s on-board cable headend.

In April the Truck will roll into Las Vegas for NAB 2004, showcasing advanced digital video systems that are supporting broadcast television.
