CES2006: LG Builds DVRs into LCD Sets

LG Electronics has introduced three new LCD models with built-in DVRs capable of storing up to 15 hours of HD video or 66 hours of SD programming. The LG units also include the Gemstar-TV Guide On Screen interactive program resource, which allows the capture and storage of recorded programs in customized folders.

LG Electronics has introduced three new LCD models with built-in DVRs capable of storing up to 15 hours of HD video or 66 hours of SD programming. The LG units also include the

interactive program resource, which allows the capture and storage of recorded programs in customized folders.

Both the 42-inch LCD models (42LB1DRA and 42LB1DR) and the 47-inch LCD (47LB1DRA) are digital-cable ready for HD and SD.

The 47-inch LCD integrates two ATSC tuners, providing the capability of recording one HD channel on the DVR while watching another HD channel. According to published reports, the larger 47-inch unit has a display resolution of 1920 x 1080p (although no one is yet broadcasting in 1080p). The 47LB1DRA, expected to be shipped next fall, includes dual HDMI inputs and 9-in-2 memory card slots.
