CES: Philips to Offer Reference Design for Integrated HDTV

CES attendees visiting the Philips Semiconductor showcase will get a preview of a new chip and software solution for integrated ATSC/NTSC receiver design. The chip and software set offers a solution for the design of an integrated TV set that includes, in addition to NTSC and ATSC HD/SD DTV reception and display, support for wired and wireless network connections, and the ability to display streaming media and digital photos in addition to video.

In addition to the decoders, scaler, renderer, and de-interlacer it needs to display HDTV, SDTV, and still photos, it includes support for dynamic backlighting for LCD displays, to enhance the display's contrast ratio. The development kit will be available early in 2005, while TV sets incorporating it will be available later in the year.
