Breakthrough in “plug & play” cable standard may be near

Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), said his group has been working hard for several months to help achieve a national “plug & play” DTV cable standard for interconnection of consumer electronics equipment. Such a standard would allow home users to easily connect a diverse range of cable reception devices with display monitors and other products.

“I am extraordinarily optimistic that within in a matter of days we will have an announcement of a consumer-friendly standard which we’ll present to the FCC and others,” said Shapiro at a CEA event in New York City on Nov. 6.
