Billboard’s MultiMedia acquisition may create first digital signage ‘giant’

Media and entertainment giant BillBoard Video has acquired California-based MultiMedia Electronic Programmable Signs, an LED display signage manufacturer. The acquisition marks a big step for the fast-growing digital signage market segment. The two companies represent a combination of complementary skills. One is known for getting messages across through commercially driven news and entertainment; the other is a long time creator of the medium for those messages. Together, the newly formed enterprise has the potential to become the digital signage industry’s first real giant.

MultiMedia designs and manufactures many of the digitally programmable signs in many major metropolitan areas. MultiMedia specializes in LED digital display technology by providing custom solutions for major corporate customers. MultiMedia's most elaborate out-of-home digital advertisement is in New York’s Times Square (see “Narrowcasting News & Events” below).

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of BillBoard Video, MultiMedia is being integrated to deliver complete out-of-home advertising and digital displays that include LED display systems and media content management. Additionally, BillBoard plans to invest in MultiMedia's infrastructure and expand sales in existing LED vertical markets and support established sales channels. In addition to expanding existing facilities, BillBoard Video will open new offices in Europe, Asia and South America.
