BBC chooses Dalet for Arabic TV channel

The BBC World Service has selected Dalet Digital Media Systems to provide an integrated video ingest, media asset management and production platform for its future Arabic TV channel.

Dalet Professional Services will provide the project management, workflow analysis and specifications, installation and configuration, testing of workflows and integrations plus a training program for administrators and newsroom staff.

This new BBC World Service channel will be launched in the fall of 2007 and broadcast in Arabic to 22 countries across the Middle East.

DaletPlus will control ingest of video feeds and field material as well as provide 80 journalists with desktop editing tools and digital archiving. The installation with include a built-in workflow management and approvals processes that will make it a multimedia broadcast facility that can also supply programming to radio and the Internet.

The system — which is to be installed in the newly refurbished BBC Broadcasting House in London — will use Omneon Spectrum Media Servers for ingest and playout and integrate with an AP ENPS text newsroom computer system and an IBIS playout automation platform.
