Avid Media Browse System Lands Chicago News Job

Avid Technology Inc. has sold a 70-seat Avid Media Browse system to WLS-TV in Chicago. WLS, an ABC affiliate, will use the system in conjunction with an existing Avid iNEWS newsroom computer system to give journalists the ability to view video, edit stories and add audio voiceover tracks from existing desktops.

The Media Browse system allows producers, journalists and writers to share media assets from their desktops. Developed with input from newsroom journalists, the system is designed to save time in the news production process by providing immediate, enterprise-wide access to ingested video. Staff can share ingested media, cross-reference scripts with video, drop low-resolution footage into a timeline and add voiceover to the story from a networked workstation.

WLS said that it chose the system because it wanted to move from using tape to a more flexible production environment, which will also help with delivering late-breaking stories.
