NEP, FOX Sports rely on Thomson for HD production gear in Daytona

Production equipment in NEP Supershooters HD trucks include two Grass Valley Kalypso HD video production center switchers.

FOX Sports’ HD coverage of the Daytona 500 last weekend relied on a complement of Grass Valley brand digital production equipment from Thomson.

Three NEP Supershooters HD trucks - ND-1, ST-25 and ST-27 - were connected via fiber creating a single, large production network to produce the live broadcasts for FOX Sports in the 720p HD format.

Production equipment included two Grass Valley Kalypso HD video production center switchers; more than 15 LDK 6000 mk II WorldCam HD cameras; two LDK 23Hs mk II SloMo cameras; a Trinix and a Concerto Series router; and numerous Kameleon and Gecko modular signal conversion products. NEP also used the Grass Valley C2IP system to control and synchronize the cameras from the trucks.

SD and analog NTSC audiences viewed downconverted images from the output of the LDK 6000 cameras.

The three trucks will travel year round to present the 2005 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series season races in HD on FOX.
