Mova’s Contour system gives producers more control over visual effects

Motion picture and video game makers will be able to use digital cameras to accurately capture and depict full-motion, photorealistic CG characters and other imagery. Mova has created a new cinematography process that can reduce production costs and give content producers additional creative control over the visual effects process.

Mova’s Contour Reality Capture system performs the task of moving motion capture to reality capture. Contour employs two separate-yet-synchronized camera systems to simultaneously record visual and geometric information of the subject. These two sets of data are combined to result in a high-resolution 3D digital image. With this markerless, optics-based process, every subtle detail of a human performance — from an arching eyebrow or widening eyes, to a sly smile — is recorded in real time.
