IBC2004 attendance surpasses 40,000; event deemed a success

Attendees had an opportunity to visit the stands of more than 1000 exhibitors in 11 halls at the RAI in Amsterdam.

If IBC2004 was any indication of the overall health of television, cinema and new media worldwide, the industries are healthy and growing at a significant rate.

This year’s IBC saw a 12 percent increase in attendance over last year’s numbers, reaching 40,776 people as of the close of the show Sept. 14.

Attendees had an opportunity to visit the stands of more than 1000 exhibitors in 11 halls at the RAI in Amsterdam. Covering content creation, media management and delivery, the exhibitors displayed the latest technology and newest business concepts for the television and new media industries.

Visitors from around the world also had an opportunity to focus on the latest developments in post-production techniques and display alternatives for digital cinema. For the third year in a row, attendees could immerse themselves in D-Cinema technology.

The conference program offered an abundance of knowledge on digital content creation, management, rights management, high-definition television and the latest in production and post-production techniques. A highlight of this year’s learning experience was the IBC Training Zone, where attendees could get hands-on training from companies and industry experts in areas such as DVD creation and audio sweetening.

The cutting edge of technology for television and new media glistened at the IBC New Technology Campus where broadcasters, researchers and networks examined a wealth of emerging technology that will transform the production and delivery of television. This year’s campus offered exhibits from Canada, Russia, Germany, Korea, Japan and the UK.

IBC2004 also offered an opportunity for some of the industry’s luminaries to be honored for their contributions and achievements. Among recipients of this year’s IBC awards were:

  • Ted Turner with the IBC2004 International Honor For Excellence;
  • David Bancroft from Thomson UK with the IBC President’s Award for the best technical paper presented at the conference;
  • Humax Electronics and dB Broadcast for best exhibition stand design.
