Nucomm Features Second Generation CamPac2 HD/SD COFDM Microwave Transmitter at HD World 2009

NEW YORK, NY - Nucomm, part of The Vitec Group's RF Extreme business unit, and a leading provider of digital and analog microwave systems for the Broadcast market, as well as the Sports & Entertainment, Government, Military and International marketplace, is exhibiting its second generation lightweight CamPac 2 HD/SD COFDM microwave transmitter at HD World 2009 (Booth 1008).

Intended for wireless camera applications, such as sports coverage and electronic news gathering (ENG), the CamPac2 has quickly established itself as a class-leading product in its field following product launch in 2006. Its stylish, rugged, machined housing provides durability and exceptional thermal characteristics for operation in the harshest of conditions.

Following the huge success of the CamPac2 in the Americas and Asia markets, and in response to the specific R&TTE and RoHS requirements of the European Economic Area (EEA), Nucomm is proud to announce the launch of the second generation CamPac2 incorporating features such as direct IQ modulation and enhanced operator menus.

Available in popular bands between 2GHz and 7.5GHz, the CamPac 2 can be mounted to professional cameras via Anton/Bauer batteries or integrated adapter plates for Sony 'V lock' battery types. It is equipped with a variable bandwidth COFDM modulator and a high-quality MPEG2 encoder that can be configured for either HD or SD, both of which deliver ultra-low latency.

"The CamPac 2 is designed with the user in mind," says RF Extreme President Stephen Shpock. "In today's fast-paced broadcast world, there is a need for innovative wireless cameras, especially in light of more and more ENG and sports coverage being produced every day. Nucomm adheres to that need. When we designed this system, we knew it needed to be compact and simple for ease of use yet sophisticated enough to handle a wide range of applications including ENG, portable camera mounting for sports production, helicopter and UAV links as well as portable, mobile video and data links."

Shpock adds, "In keeping with our objective of rolling out world format microwave systems, we are delighted to announce CE and RoHS compliance for the CamPac2, along with its companion receiver the Newscaster DR2. Both products are available in a compliant build state on standard lead times."

Its variable bandwidth modulator (between 5 MHz and 16 MHz) allows high data rates in excess of 30 Mbs using robust QPSK or 16QAM formats. To ensure compatibility with any DVB-T standard system, its 6/7/8 MHz bandwidth modes are DVB-T compliant. In addition, the CamPac 2 accepts various video formats from SDI and HD-SDI, both component and composite, to DVB-ASI for repeating applications.

Outfitted with dual audio inputs that can be arranged for microphone, line level or AES/EBU digital sound, the CamPac 2's audio can be easily set using the programmable gain. Its digital VU meters are illustrated on the color TFT display. Built with a unique wheel that senses the position of one's finger tips, the CamPac 2's control panel offers easy navigation through a simplified menu system. Epitomizing flexibility, its control panel can be removed and replaced through an optional extender that allows remote use of up to 100 feet via an RS-232/RS-485, a PDA or PC.
