NAB2006: ESPN to Focus on Fujinon HD Zoom
May 3, 2006
National Mobile Television (NMT) tapped NAB last week to show off its new HD-11 -- an all-digital, 53-foot expandable, mobile HD production trailer with signal processing handled entirely in native HD, including acquisition, switching, routing and monitoring.
ESPN has booked the mobile control center for its Friday night NCAA football coverage through at least the 2006 season (including a few post-season bowl games). The games will be produced and broadcast on ESPN and ESPN2 in 720/60p, the preferred format of owner Disney/ABC Television.
To accompany up to 10 Thomson Grass Valley LDK-6000 Worldcam Mark II cameras, the HD-11 truck will carry an assortment of Fujinon Digi-Power HD zoom lenses that comprise two XA101x8.7ESM and six XA87x9.3ESM high-magnification zooms. Equipment also will include four Fujinon HA22x7.8ERM handheld ENG-style HD zooms.
The HD-11 mobile unit has also been equipped with: one Thomson Grass Valley Kalypso HD production switcher; one Chyron Duet Hyper X live graphics system; one video wall of Sony Luma-9 HD LCD monitors; 22 channels of EVS networked servers; and a Calrec digital audio console for processing 5.1 surround sound.
