Commission delays enforcement of Red Light Rule till Nov. 1

The FCC has delayed until Nov. 1 enforcement of its recently adopted Red Light Rule for licensees that are delinquent in payments owed the commission.

The Red Light Rule, adopted as part of the FCC’s ongoing effort to implement the Debt Collection Improvement Act, provides that the commission will check whether entities or individuals seeking licenses or other benefits from the FCC are delinquent in debt owed to the commission.

Once the rule takes effect, anyone filing an application or seeking a benefit that is discovered to be delinquent in debt owed to the FCC will be notified of the delinquency and given 30 days to pay the debt in full or make other satisfactory arrangements. Failure to do so will result in dismissal of the application or other request for a benefit.
