WJW-TV, the FOX O&O station in Cleveland, OH, is using JVC's GY-HD250U ProHD cameras to complement the existing production of its local newscasts in HDTV. The station also uses JVC's encoders and decoders for its HD helicopter.
Tom Creter, vice president of engineering, said the station initially bought the GY-HD250U cameras for live remote beauty shots, but it was so impressed with the quality of HDV footage, that it now uses the cameras in the newsroom for "live flash" views.
In December 2004, WJW became the third television station in the country to produce all daily local newscasts in the (720p) HD format.
Other stations now using the GY-HD250U include WXYZ-TV, the ABC affiliate in Detroit, MI., and WLS-TV, the ABC station in Chicago.
